Lifeguard Job Description |

Responsible for helping in the supervision and operation of the waterfront. Help enforce safety rules and care of equipment. May assist in teaching swimming, boating and/or other aquatic activities. Responsible to stand alert at watch posts (lifeguard stand or other). Help ensure the beach area is safe for all campers. Set a Christian example for all campers and staff.
Basic duties include, but are not limited to the following include:
- Help organize Buddy Board system
- Help make sure all equipment is safe before each use
- Help make sure all beach equipment is stored when not in use
- Help place all safety equipment in proper positions on the waterfront during all water activities
- Assist in organizing canoe trip or water field trip
- Keep beach area free of garbage and lost & found articles
- Help enforce camp and waterfront rules while on the water front
- Help inspect PFD’s, boats, swim area, beach area, picnic area and restrooms
- Assist in leading, teaching and/or participate in ALL waterfront activities (and be available for other camp activities)
Possible waterfront activities
-Canoeing, water games, water exercise, free swim, swim lessons, fishing
- Monitor swim activities at designated posts
- Work with WSI to incorporate an Emergency Action Plan
- Under the direction of the WSI, use the whistle to signal an emergency or to get a swimmer’s attention (SEE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES)
Dress Code/Resources needed:
Swim suit (Lifeguard identification preferred) - Whistle
- Clipboard with copies of qualifications
Qualifications and Training Requirements:
Current ARC Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid - Attend Staff Orientation and Training before camp
- 16+, with the desire to work with children in a camp and aquatic setting
- Must demonstrate good swimming, boating and canoeing

Waterfront Director/WSI, Camp Director and Camp Supervisor
